Education minister takes notice of student’s death in school incident

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) Provincial Minister for education Rana Sikandar Hayat took strict notice of the tragic death of a

female student after the collapse of an under-construction classroom shed in Pasrur.

Acting on the special instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial minister

arrived in Sialkot and visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School Badiana to review the situation.

Speaking to the media, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that immediate action had been

taken in light of preliminary investigations. Officials of the Education Department, including the CEO Education and the school Principal, had been arrested.

He further directed that the contractor and the engineer responsible for the construction be arrested by

tomorrow.

The minister confirmed that a case has been registered on the complaint of the administration.

He revealed

that the CEO Education had visited the school two days prior to the incident but failed to ensure necessary

safety measures. It was also disclosed that the affected student was shifted to the hospital with a delay of nearly one hour.

Expressing deep sorrow, the minister said, “The eighth-grade student was like my own daughter. Those responsible will be brought to justice and held accountable,” adding that the family of the deceased has refused a post-mortem examination. During the visit, the minister was briefed in detail about the incident.

Secretary School Education Mudassar Hayat Malik, Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali,and Assistant Commissioner Pasrur Sidra Sattar were also present on the occasion. The minister inspected the site of the accident, where the assistant commissioner provided a comprehensive briefing on the circumstances regarding the tragedy.
