Education development budget set to rise to Rs.171bn in FY 2026-27

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) A major increase has been proposed in the education sector development budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, officials said on Monday.

According to details,the overall education budget was set to rise from Rs.146 billion to Rs.171 billion,marking an increase of over Rs.25 billion more than 17 percent compared to the current fiscal year.

The school education budget has been proposed at Rs.115 billion,while higher education funding was set at Rs.45 billion.

Officials said allocations for special education were likely to increase to Rs5.5 billion, while the literacy and non-formal education budget may rise to Rs6 billion.

It has also been decided to allocate additional funds to accelerate development projects in the education sector, with emphasis on infrastructure development,new initiatives and completion of ongoing schemes.

Key priorities include children’s transport facilities, tablet distribution and C-library projects, officials added.
