Punjab Launches First E-Taxi Scheme for Youth and Women

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially launched Pakistan’s first E-Taxi Scheme. The initiative is part of the province’s “e-mobility ecosystem” to modernize public transport and cut urban smog. The scheme also focuses on creating job opportunities for youth and women.

Under the first phase, 1,100 electric vehicles (EVs) are distributed at heavily subsidized rates. The government has allocated Rs. 4 billion in subsidies. Men receive 50% down payment coverage while women receive 60%. Registration, fitness tests, and token taxes are fully covered.

Through this scheme, drivers can receive between 150,000 and 200,000 every month. Every car has got a panic button that is connected to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority so that the response to an emergency will be instant. Cars are technologically prepared with cameras, Wi-Fi, and in-car charging receptacles. They are already combined with the most commonly used ride-hailing apps such as inDrive and Yango.
