PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) The payment of financial assistance to deserving families under the Ramazan Relief Package announced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been delayed.

The provincial government had released 10 billion rupees to the Department of Social Welfare for this purpose, but even after half of the holy month of Ramazan has passed, the distribution of funds had not started.

According to government sources, about 1.034 million poor and deserving families across the province were to receive 12,500 rupees per family to reduce the effects of inflation during Ramazan. However, the payments were delayed due to administrative issues.

Sources said the government had instructed Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), Tehsil Chairmen, and even party candidates who lost elections, along with youth, social media, lawyers and other organizational wings to prepare lists of 5,000 deserving individuals.

However, the required data was not provided on time from several areas, which caused the delay in the payment process.

Officials from the Social Welfare Department said the government has now decided to start payments on an emergency basis.

Financial assistance will begin today for families whose lists have already been verified and approved. Authorities added that the verification of the remaining lists is being completed rapidly so that as many deserving families as possible can receive financial assistance during Ramazan.
