A Devil Baal Statue in Mehran Town, Karachi, created a wave of panic among local residents before authorities intervened. The statue, which was widely circulated on social media, prompted the Korangi Industrial Area police to take immediate action.
Police reports that the statue was crafted of thermocol at the bequest of a religious scholar for the occasion of Al Quds Day. The shopkeeper was absent when the police arrived at the shop and the statue was seized. The sculptor who made the statue was later arrested to interrogate him as well.
Shopkeeper Imran explained that the scholar had given the directive that the effigy would be burnt during a protest at the Friday procession. The artisan was freed by the police after they gave him a detailed explanation.
People had protested against the making of the statue of Baal, arguing that it was very upsetting. The police was quick to address the concerns of the people, and the statue was taken off and confined.
This incident highlights the sensitivity around religious and cultural symbols in Karachi and the role of law enforcement in maintaining public order.
