Deputy Mayor of Mirpur Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai urges immediate restoration of internet, banking services across AJK

Deputy Mayor of Mirpur Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai on Thursday called for the immediate restoration of internet services and banking operations across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), saying prolonged disruptions were causing severe hardship for residents, businesses and students who had no role in the prevailing situation

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Deputy Mayor of Mirpur Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai on Thursday called for the immediate restoration of internet services and banking operations across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), saying prolonged disruptions were causing severe hardship for residents, businesses and students who had no role in the prevailing situation.

Addressing a press conference at the Kashmir Press Club in Mirpur, Chughtai said Kashmiris have always remained steadfast in their support for Pakistan and urged authorities to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food, medicines and other essential commodities. He said restrictions on the movement of daily-use items were increasing public hardship and resentment, while the suspension of internet and banking services had disrupted education, commercial activities and financial transactions. He appealed to Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir to take notice of the situation and facilitate the restoration of essential services and smooth transportation of goods.

The deputy mayor also urged the Inspector General of Police and the Chief Secretary to investigate those responsible for alleged corruption and administrative irregularities. He claimed that government-subsidized flour had remained unavailable for the past month and alleged that funds required for restoring the power system had yet to be released. Chughtai said unemployment was increasing, daily wage earners were among the worst affected and many businesses were unable to operate effectively due to supply shortages.

Calling for urgent government intervention, Chughtai said the people of AJK have consistently stood as Pakistan's first line of defence along the Line of Control and remain committed to peace and stability. He urged the authorities to resolve longstanding public issues, including the concerns of earthquake victims, and take immediate measures to restore normalcy and ease the suffering of the people. Several municipal councillors and political and social figures attended the press conference.
