LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) With Eid-ul-Azha nearing fast, the demand for skilled butchers in provincial metropolis has surged significantly, despite driven by the spike in sacrificial animal slaughter during the Islamic festival.
In this regard, the role of butchers is considered to be vital for chopping the meat. Keeping in view their importance and demand, professional butchers have also increased rates of preparing meat as compared to last year.
Citizens say that after sacrificial animals, butchering expenses have now become a big financial burden for them.
According to market sources, butchers are demanding a fee of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 on the first day of Eid for the sacrifice of a large animal, while Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 are being charged for the sacrifice of a small animal. According to citizens, the fees of butchers have almost doubled compared to last year.
Several citizens complained that due to inflation, it has already become difficult to buy sacrificial animals, in such a situation, the increasing rates of butchers have further increased the expenses of Eid.
To help meet the growing demand, many seasonal butchers from across the province also travel to Lahore during Eid festivity. These visiting butchers often charge slightly lower rates and offer a practical solution to the shortage of skilled labour in the city during the Eid.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>On the other hand, the butchers are of the opinion that due to inflation, their tools, labor and travel expenses have also increased significantly, which is why it has become a compulsion to increase the fees. They say that the work pressure is very high during Eid days and additional manpower has to be arranged to perform more sacrifices in a limited time.
Munawar Ali, a butcher who also runs a meat shop in Ichhra area, said that Eidul Azha is a special Islamic festival following the slaughtering of animals at a mass level, highlighting that everyone looked for professional butchers to chop their meat, which has sparked high demand.
He said on Eid-ul-Azha, everyone looks for a professional and skilled butcher for cutting their meat in a quality way; it is our peak season.
Munawar shared his slaughtering rates for this year, noting that cow slaughtering on the first day of Eid is priced at Rs25,000 to 30,000, while the rate drops to Rs20,000 on the second day.
By the third day, the cost ranges between Rs15,000 to Rs18,000, depending on demand.
Citizens have demanded that the local administration and relevant institutions should play a role in moderating the fees of butchers so that the public can get some relief on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
