DC reviews progress of cart bazaar project

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) A key review meeting on the establishment of cart bazaars across the district was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza to assess progress on the initiative in various tehsils. Officials from relevant departments attended the meeting and provided detailed briefings on different aspects of the project.

Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner stated that under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of the 'Apna Rozgar Scheme', practical steps are being taken to promote small businesses and provide dignified livelihood opportunities to citizens. He directed that the cart bazaar project be completed at the earliest so that modern and organised facilities can be made available to the public.

During the briefing, it was revealed that a total of 660 handcarts are required across different tehsils of the district. The allocation includes 120 for Bahawalpur City, 25 for Bahawalpur Sadar, 130 for Ahmadpur East, 170 for Yazman, 65 for Khairpur Tamewali, and 150 for Hasilpur.

The meeting also considered a proposal for 86 customised handcarts, out of which 30 will be designated for Craft Bazaar and 25 for Melawali Gali. Officials informed that distribution of 31 handcarts is currently underway, while a total of 55 have already been distributed so far.

The deputy commissioner instructed that well-organised cart bazaars be established in the craft bazaar and Mela Street using modern-designed handcarts to ensure a better working environment for vendors and improved facilities for citizens. He further shared that a facilitation bazaar has already been set up in the One Unit Staff Colony, while preparations to launch operations in commercial areas have been completed. Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Syed Hassan Raza emphasized that the project will be completed on the basis of transparency and merit to ensure sustainable livelihood opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs across the district.
