DC reviews polio, dengue control measures

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz chaired a review meeting on anti-polio and dengue control measures, reiterating the administration’s commitment to building a polio-free and dengue-safe Lahore through sustained surveillance, effective field operations, and public cooperation.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all relevant departments, while the Chief Executive Officer (Health) briefed participants on ongoing vaccination drives, monitoring systems, and field-level performance indicators.

It was informed that during the last anti-polio campaign, more than 2.2 million children across Lahore were successfully vaccinated, achieving all set targets. The administration confirmed that the upcoming anti-polio drive will commence from May 18, with 5,825 mobile vaccination teams deployed across the district to ensure maximum coverage and zero missed children.

On dengue control, officials reported that only four cases were recorded during the current year, all of whom have fully recovered after receiving timely medical treatment.

The meeting was further apprised that 1,316 field teams are actively engaged in dengue surveillance and response activities across the city.

A significant 344 percent increase in dengue larva detection activity was recorded, with surveillance covering 30,162 hotspot locations. The DC directed that effective surveillance must be ensured in all government offices, warning that negligence in anti-dengue measures will result in strict disciplinary action.

DC Muhammad Ali Ejaz said that achieving 100 percent targets in both polio and dengue campaigns remains a top priority of the administration. He emphasized that the vision of a polio-free Pakistan can only be realized through strong public participation and coordinated institutional efforts. He said that the decline in dengue cases reflects the effectiveness of the district administration’s strategy and field response mechanism. He said that efforts for a healthy Lahore and eradication of preventable diseases will continue with full force and dedication.
