DC reviews flood preparedness

GUJRAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2026) The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Wednesday reviewed the district's preparedness for the ongoing monsoon season and possible flood emergencies, with officials claiming that rescue equipment and emergency response arrangements were in place.

Deputy Commissioner(DC),Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi chaired the meeting which was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Qurat-ul-Ain,Assistant Commissioner Sarai Alamgir Sadia Dogar, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Engineer Umar Akbar Ali Ghuman,WASA Managing Director Kashan Hafeez Butt,officials of the Irrigation Department and other departments.

Rescue 1122 officials briefed the meeting on the district disaster management and flood contingency plans, emergency response arrangements for urban and flash floods,evacuation procedures,water rescue training and public awareness campaigns.

They said all water rescue equipment, boats and other emergency resources had been made operational, while three mock exercises had also been conducted.

Officials of the Irrigation Department informed the meeting about inspections of protective embankments and measures taken to ensure the smooth flow of floodwater.

WASA officials said desilting of drains,cleaning of sewerage lines,construction of RCC culverts and drainage improvement works were underway in Shahpur,Dhedhar,Moeenuddin Pur,Noora Mandiala,Sook Kalan,Arshad Shaheed Chowk and other localities.

The meeting also reviewed development schemes aimed at improving drainage and flood protection.

The DC directed all departments to maintain close coordination and continue preparedness measures to ensure a timely response to any emergency during the monsoon season.
