LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz on Sunday issued final directives to ensure completion of all ongoing development projects within stipulated timelines under the Lahore Development Programme.
Chairing a review meeting at his office, the deputy commissioner emphasised strict adherence to construction standards, public safety SOPs and uninterrupted traffic flow during execution of uplift schemes. He directed the authorities to implement alternative traffic management plans wherever development work is under way to minimise inconvenience to citizens.
The meeting was attended by officials of the district administration, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), who reviewed the pace and quality of ongoing projects.
The meeting was informed that under Phase-I of the Lahore Development Programme, 5,278 streets have been completed, with 85 per cent inspection already conducted to ensure use of high-quality materials. A combined target of 14,423 streets has been set under Phase-I and Phase-II for construction and rehabilitation across the city.
Briefing participants, officials said field monitoring is being carried out regularly to ensure quality material usage and compliance with approved standards.
WASA and MCL were directed to improve street levels and drainage systems to enhance durability and prevent waterlogging.
The DC said that transforming Lahore into a modern and sustainably developed city is the priority under the chief minister’s vision, adding that transparent and timely completion of public welfare projects remains the district administration’s foremost commitment.
Meanwhile, the district administration imposed fines exceeding Rs 465,000 on profiteers during a citywide crackdown to ensure essential commodities sold at officially notified rates. On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz, assistant commissioners and price magistrates carried out inspections at Sahulat Bazaars, DC counters, open markets and fruit and vegetable markets. Several shops were sealed for overcharging, while strict monitoring of auction processes and stock availability was ensured.
