DC Murree orders inquiry after overspeeding sparks deadly van fire on Murree Expressway, 4 dead

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murree on Wednesday said that a van carrying 16 tourists, including women and children, burst into flames after crashing on the Murree Expressway, leaving four people dead and 12 others injured, as rescue teams responded to the emergency and authorities launched an inquiry into the incident.

While speaking to a local media outlet, he said a passenger van crashed into a roadside wall after the driver reportedly lost control due to excessive speed.

The collision triggered a fire in the vehicle’s engine compartment, which quickly spread through the van, he said, adding, the situation worsened when the vehicle’s sliding door became locked, trapping several passengers

inside.

As a result of the fire, four tourists lost their lives, while 12 others sustained serious injured.

Rescue teams responded promptly, evacuating the victims and shifting the injured and the deceased to Farooq Hospital and PIMS Hospital for medical treatment and further procedures.

He said heavy contingent of police personnel and the Murree administration reached the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident. Rescue and relief operations were launched without delay.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials have assured that all aspects of the tragedy will be thoroughly examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
