DC chairs meeting on fire prevention, emergency preparedness amid heatwave concerns

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sanaullah Khan on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review fire prevention, preparedness and emergency response measures in view of the ongoing heatwave and dry weather conditions.

According to an official statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief Mehran Khan, administrative officers, and representatives from the Forest Department, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Police and other relevant departments.

Participants reviewed potential fire hazards, risks of wildfires and fires on government land, firefighting preparedness, available resources and coordination mechanisms among departments during emergencies. Relevant departments briefed the meeting on their current arrangements and readiness plans.

The DC directed all concerned institutions to remain on high alert due to the increased risk of fires caused by extreme temperatures and prolonged dry weather.

He instructed authorities to ensure the availability of firefighting equipment, machinery and personnel at all times and to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations.

He also directed the Forest Department to strengthen surveillance in forested areas and enhance preventive measures to reduce the risk of wildfire incidents.

The meeting decided that effective coordination among all relevant departments would be maintained and emergency response systems further strengthened to ensure the protection of human lives, property and natural resources.

Sanaullah Khan appealed to citizens to adopt precautionary measures during the summer season and promptly report any fire incident to the relevant authorities to help prevent losses and ensure a swift response.
