DC chairs DPC meeting, reaffirms commitment to peaceful Muharram observance

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Sargodha, Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the District Peace Committee (DPC) to review arrangements for the peaceful observance of the 9th and 10th of Muharram and reaffirm collective efforts to maintain law and order across the district.

According to the official spokesperson here, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Rana Muhammad Abu Bakar, officers of the Pakistan Army, representatives of law enforcement agencies, security officials, and members of the District Peace Committee.

Participants reviewed security arrangements, traffic management plans, interfaith harmony measures, and initiatives aimed at promoting religious tolerance during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Addressing the meeting, the DC expressed satisfaction over the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the district during Muharram and appreciated the role of religious scholars, peace committee members, procession and majlis organizers, police, district administration, and other departments in maintaining harmony and public order.

He said that the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding among all schools of thought had helped ensure a peaceful environment throughout the district, allowing religious gatherings and processions to continue smoothly.

The DC emphasized the significance of the 9th and 10th of Muharram and urged all stakeholders to continue demonstrating brotherhood, patience, and religious tolerance.

He directed organizers to strictly adhere to the scheduled timings of processions and religious gatherings to ensure smooth management of activities, particularly in view of the Ashura processions coinciding with Friday congregational prayers.

He also instructed authorities to further strengthen security arrangements, noting an increase in the participation of women in religious events. “The protection of life and property of mourners remains the district administration’s top priority, and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with special prayers for the peace, stability, and prosperity of Pakistan, as well as for the peaceful conduct of Muharram-ul-Haram.
