ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jul, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sarmad Saleem Akram on Saturday chaired a meeting to review transporters' welfare, the management of transport terminals, the fare system, and measures to safeguard passengers' rights.
The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Traffic Police, transport associations, and terminal contractors.
The meeting was informed that the existing terminal fee rates had been approved through the prescribed legal procedure and that no collection beyond the officially notified rates would be tolerated. The Deputy Commissioner directed authorities to initiate legal action against anyone found charging excess fees, adding that any revision in the fee structure would remain suspended until approved by the competent authority.
A zero-tolerance policy was also announced against passenger overcharging, misconduct, and other complaints. Officials were instructed to impose strict penalties on violators, including fines and impounding of vehicles where necessary.
To improve regulation of public transport, the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) was directed to launch an immediate crackdown on illegal transport terminals and ensure that all public transport vehicles operate only from officially approved terminals.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The meeting also agreed that all vehicles possessing valid route permits would be granted non-discriminatory access to transport terminals for the boarding and disembarking of passengers.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed transport associations to refrain from unnecessary interference in terminal management, appoint only one or two authorised managers, and submit affidavits affirming their commitment to implementing administrative decisions, eliminating overcharging, and protecting passengers' rights.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram reaffirmed that providing safe, fair, and quality
transport services to passengers, ensuring transparency in the transport system, and promoting the genuine welfare of the transport community remain the district administration's top priorities. He said all relevant departments would work in close coordination to ensure effective implementation of these decisions and uphold the principles of good governance.
