FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) The Danish-funded mega wastewater treatment plant being executed by the Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad has been hailed as a landmark environmental project aimed at protecting citizens from pollution as Danish donor representatives expressed satisfaction over the quality, transparency and progress of the scheme during a visit to the city.

Representatives of Impact Fund Denmark/DANIDA, Mr. Jacob and Mrs. Stine, visited Faisalabad to review progress on the mega project and assess ongoing development activities.

Upon their arrival at the Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant project site, Project Director Owais Jamal welcomed the delegation and provided a comprehensive briefing on the scope, objectives and implementation status of the project.

During visit, Mr. Jacob met the project's contractor, consultant and WASA officials and reviewed various aspects of construction and project management. He inspected the ongoing development work and expressed satisfaction with the quality standards being maintained at the site.

The Danish donor appreciated the efforts of the Punjab government and WASA Faisalabad for successfully resuming construction activities on the important environmental project, describing the initiative as a significant step toward improving urban sanitation infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

The delegation was informed that the wastewater treatment facility would play a vital role in reducing environmental pollution, improving public health standards and enhancing the quality of life for residents by ensuring the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater.

Mr. Jacob and Mrs. Stine also visited the water treatment plant project at Makkoana being implemented with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD).

During visit, they reviewed operational arrangements and examined the progress of development work being carried out under international cooperation frameworks.

The donors commended WASA Faisalabad's institutional capacity to execute large-scale development projects in collaboration with international funding partners. They particularly appreciated the authority's transparent utilization of funds, effective project management practices and preparedness for post-completion operational responsibilities.

Expressing confidence in WASA's performance, the Danish representatives termed its management and implementation mechanisms satisfactory and noted that the agency has demonstrated its ability to deliver complex infrastructure projects efficiently and responsibly.

The visiting delegation also conveyed its willingness to continue cooperation with WASA Faisalabad in future development initiatives, indicating the potential for further collaboration on projects aimed at improving water, sanitation and environmental services in the city.

They said that the wastewater treatment plant project would contribute significantly to environmental protection efforts and support the government's broader objective of creating cleaner, healthier and more sustainable urban centers across Punjab.
