Current Account records $252 million deficit in 10 months of FY26: SBP

Pakistan’s External Current Account recorded a deficit of US$ 252 million during the July-April fiscal year 2025-26 compared to a surplus of $ 1,662 million in the first ten months of previous fiscal year

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Pakistan’s External Current Account recorded a deficit of US$ 252 million during the July-April fiscal year 2025-26 compared to a surplus of $ 1,662 million in the first ten months of previous fiscal year.

Current Account Balance for April 2026 posted a deficit of $ 324 million as compared to a surplus of $1,134 million in March 2026 and the deficit of $ 12 million in April 2025, the State Bank of Pakistan reported in the monthly summary of Balance of Payments on Monday.

The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July-April FY26 recorded a deficit of $ 26,929 million, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, as compared to a $21,317 million deficit in the corresponding period of FY24-25.

The balance on Trade in goods during April 2026 has recorded a deficit of $ 3,412 million as compared to a deficit of $ 2,365 million in March 2026 and $ 2,640 million in April 2025, the data depicted.

Balance on trade of services during July-April FY26 has recorded a deficit of $ 2,040 million as compared to a $2,465 million deficit of July-Apr FY25, the data shows. In April 2026, services’ trade posted a surplus of $ 24 million in comparison to a $59 million surplus in March 2026 and a $162 million deficit in April 2025.

The overall trade deficit in both goods and services reached at $ 28,969 million in the first 10 months of FY26 in comparison to the deficit of $ 23,782 million during Jul-April FY25.

In April 2026, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 3,388 million, as compared to the deficit of $ 2,306 million in March 2026 and the deficit of $ 2,802 million in April 2025.

The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 7,014 million during July-April FY26 against a deficit of $ 7,335 million in the corresponding period of last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.

The inflow of workers’ remittances from overseas during the first ten months of FY26 has been recorded as $ 33,858 million in comparison to $ 31,208 million inflows in the corresponding period of FY25. Inflow of remittances in April 2026 was recorded as $ 3,539 million in comparison to $ 3,831 million in March 26 and $ 3,177 million in April 2025.

Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year has recorded a surplus of $ 35,731 million as compared to a surplus of $ 32,779 million during July-April FY25, the SBP data showed.
