CTPL issue comprehensive traffic plan for 9th, 10th Muharram

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has announced a comprehensive traffic management and advisory plan for the 9th and 10th of Muharram to facilitate citizens, mourners, and visitors

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has announced a comprehensive traffic management and advisory plan for the 9th and 10th of Muharram to facilitate citizens, mourners, and visitors.

According to the spokesman, more than 378 Majalis (religious gatherings) and 46 processions would be held across Lahore during Muharram, including six major processions on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that extensive arrangements had been finalised to ensure smooth traffic flow and provide maximum convenience and safety to participants of Zuljinnah processions, mourners, and the general public. All procession routes, parking areas and diversion points had been thoroughly inspected, and traffic deployment plans had been implemented accordingly.

More than 200 Traffic Inspectors and over 2,300 traffic wardens and officers would perform duty during Muharram. The CTO would personally monitor traffic operations and arrangements related to all major gatherings and processions.

The central procession would commence from Nisar Haveli and proceed through its traditional route before culminating at Karbala Gamay Shah. Another major procession would originate from Pando Street, proceed to Khaima-e-Sadaat, and return to Pando Street for conclusion.

A third major procession would emerge from Qasr-e-Batool in Shadman. Zuljinnah processions would also be held from Lal Pul Nabi Pura Shiaan, Model Town, Chuhng, and Thokar Niaz Baig, added spokesman.

The CTO emphasised that emergency corridors would remain clear at all times to ensure unhindered movement of rescue and emergency vehicles in case of any unforeseen situation. Adequate parking arrangements had also been made for participants attending Majalis and processions.

The spokesman said citizens would be updated on traffic conditions through official social media platforms and the Rasta App on a real-time basis. Assistance and guidance would be available round the clock through the Police Helpline 15.

Shirazi further said that CTPL would extend full support and coordination to all allied departments to maintain law and order during Muharram. The CTO directed officers to remain vigilant regarding unattended objects and suspicious individuals.

The CTO urged citizens to follow the traffic advisory plan, use alternate routes where necessary, and cooperate with traffic police officials to ensure peaceful and organised observance of Muharram across the city.
