LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jul, 2026) Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi on Wednesday launched an expanded road safety awareness campaign under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's "Safe Roads, Safe Punjab" vision, said strict enforcement of traffic laws would continue alongside public awareness initiatives.

Talking to the media at Liberty Market, the CTO said Lahore Traffic Police's objective was not to generate revenue through fines but to protect precious human lives.

He appreciated citizens for achieving nearly 98 per cent helmet compliance on model roads and said the campaign would now be extended to other parts of the city.

Abdul Raheem Shirazi said motorcyclists wearing helmets would not face challans under the enforcement campaign, adding that the initiative had produced encouraging results in improving road safety.

He said fatal road accidents had declined by 45 per cent following the helmet enforcement campaign, while emergency departments of hospitals had also witnessed a reduction in the number of accident victims.

He noted that motorcyclists accounted for 73 per cent of fatal road accidents, making their safety a key priority. Of Lahore's 8.2 million registered vehicles, more than 6.1 million were motorcycles, which were also involved in the highest number of traffic accidents.
