CTO Lahore introduces austerity plan amid rising fuel prices

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed on Tuesday introduced an austerity plan for the City Traffic Police Lahore in view of the prevailing global situation and rising fuel prices

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed on Tuesday introduced an austerity plan for the City Traffic Police Lahore in view of the prevailing global situation and rising fuel prices.

Under the plan, the CTO directed all SPs, DSPs and sector in-charges to conduct patrol duties on motorcycles instead of official vehicles in order to reduce fuel consumption.

Dr Athar Waheed personally reviewed the fuel usage of all official vehicles of the traffic police and issued necessary instructions to ensure strict monitoring and control of petrol consumption.

He said that in the current challenging economic situation, it was essential to align with the government’s strategy and take steps that could facilitate citizens.

The CTO also directed that no official vehicle would be allowed to leave Police Lines without a duty slip, ensuring strict accountability in the use of government vehicles.

He further announced that in view of rising fuel prices, the traffic police would not issue challans to rickshaws, motorcycles and loader rickshaws until Eid.

Dr Athar urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow government guidelines to help manage fuel consumption during the current economic situation.
