Crackdown on public transport for not installing QR

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) City Traffic Police have decided to crack down after July 1 to ensure the installation

of QR panic buttons and other modern security features in public transport including

taxis, rickshaws and online cab services in view of public safety.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said on Sunday that all rickshaw

unions, online cab services and public transport operators had been given time till July 1.

Legal action will be taken against vehicles that do not adopt QR panic buttons and

other mandatory security features after the due date.

The CTO said that traffic police teams were continuing the process of installing QR

panic buttons at 45 different locations in the city, while special teams had been deployed

in each traffic sector. Twelve separate teams had been allocated for rickshaws so that

the facility could be installed in as many vehicles as possible.

He said that four more new license centers had also been established for the convenience

of citizens at the request of various rickshaw unions. While, QR panic buttons have been

installed in more than 6,000 rickshaws during the ongoing campaign so far, he added.

According to CTO Abdul Rahim Shirazi, a vehicle license, registration book and e-challan

clearance were mandatory to obtain a QR panic button. He said that smart traffic management

and the promotion of modern security features were being ensured for public safety.

He added that the installation of a modern tracking system in online cabs would enable

effective monitoring of both passengers and drivers, while the use of modern technology

would provide safe and reliable travel facilities to citizens, as well as significantly improve

traffic discipline and citizen safety.
