Crackdown on profiteers intensifies in Mirpur-AJK

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Feb, 2026) Authorities in Mirpur have intensified their ongoing crackdown against illicit profiteers, as surprise inspections were carried out in Chichiyan and other suburban bazaars to curb overpricing of daily-use items. Leading the administrative and police team, City Magistrate Raja Ayaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday conducted comprehensive price checks, thereby reinforcing the district administration’s resolve to protect consumers from artificial inflation.

During the inspection, the Revenue Officer-cum-Duty Magistrate examined the prices of fruits, vegetables, meat, chicken, biryani, samosas and pakoras, while directing shopkeepers to strictly adhere to officially notified rates. Moreover, he instructed traders to display rate lists at conspicuous places to ensure transparency.

According to district administration spokesman Javed Malik, several shopkeepers were fined immediately for overcharging and failing to display price lists, however, others were issued stern warnings.

Officials described the action as a decisive step against profiteering, adding that artificial price hikes and the sale of substandard goods would not be tolerated. The magistrate warned that legal proceedings would be initiated promptly against violators, so that market discipline could be maintained and consumers safeguarded from exploitation.

Addressing both traders and citizens, Raja Ayaz urged them to buy and sell items strictly according to the official rate lists, meanwhile encouraging the public to report complaints to the administration for swift redressal. He assured that grievances would be addressed effectively and without delay, therefore ensuring fair trade practices and meaningful relief for the people.
