KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2026) Karachi administration's crackdown on overpricing continues. Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has expanded on-spot action.
On the 10th Ramadan, magistrates provided relief to the citizens, auctioned the items of shopkeepers who were found guilty of overpricing at 309 locations and sold them at official rates.
Commissioner Naqvi directed Deputy Commissioners to take strict action against overpricing shopkeepers, ensuring citizens get relief during Ramadan. Items were auctioned at official rates at multiple locations.
According to the Commissioner Karachi office handout, 267 profiteers were fined Rs. 2.1 lakh 26,000, while 31 profiteers were arrested, and 11 shops were sealed for overpricing.
Assistant commissioners and Mukhtarkars /Magistrates checked items at 1,330 locations in total and an auction on official prices was undertaken at 309 locations.
