Court adjourns intra-court appeal in Sheikh Rashid case

A divisional bench of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a federal government intra-court appeal challenging permission granted to Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to travel abroad, until March 05

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) A divisional bench of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a Federal government intra-court appeal challenging permission granted to Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to travel abroad, until March 05.

The bench, comprising Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa and Justice Jawad Hassan, took up the matter as Sheikh Rashid appeared before the court along with his counsel Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the federal government’s intra-court appeal did not bear the signature of any authorized officer.

He contended that a single bench headed by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan had already allowed the petitioner to perform Umrah and that the federal government could not file an appeal against that order.

Counsel further submitted that Sheikh Rashid had been performing Umrah for the past 40 years but was now being obstructed by the federal government.

After preliminary hearing, the court sought a reply from the Interior Secretary and adjourned proceedings until March 5.
