Cotton cultivation target set for 747000 acres in Multan division

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) The Punjab government has set a target for cotton cultivation on about 747,000 acres of land across Multan division, Commissioner Amir Karim Khan informed in a meeting held on Wednesday.

Following the target, the Commissioner directed officials of the Agriculture Department to remain active in the field to facilitate growers and ensure timely and smooth cultivation of the crop. He also ordered special monitoring of whitefly, green pests, thrips and weeds.

Amir Karim Khan directed authorities to expedite the pest scouting and surveillance system, adding that attacks of harmful insects must be prevented through coordinated efforts.

He said sufficient water had been ensured for cotton cultivation across the division.

The Commissioner said farmers’ livelihoods were directly linked with their fields and all necessary measures must be taken to support them.

Director Agriculture Shehzad Sabir briefed the meeting on the pros and cons of cotton cultivation during the ongoing summer season. He said that so far cotton had been cultivated on 55,400 acres and assured the Commissioner that the full target would be achieved by May 30.

Deputy Commissioners and heads of relevant departments attended the meeting.
