RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jul, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani on Monday directed the authorities concerned to expedite beautification work and complete the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project at the earliest to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the city.
He issued the directions while chairing an introductory and review meeting on the RRR beautification project and Signal-Free Corridor projects at the Commissioner's Office.
During the meeting, officials briefed participants on the progress of the 38.3-kilometre RRR project, stating that overall physical work had reached 98 per cent.
Officials stated that construction of the main carriageway, flyovers, subways, and other civil works is substantially complete. Additionally, all subways, nullah bridges, interchange bridges, river bridges, and railway bridges are finished. Workers have completed the installation of kerbstones, road barriers, road markings, signboards, berms, and streetlights, leaving only the toll plaza unfinished.
The meeting was informed that the project was being executed under the Punjab Ring Road Authority and that a dedicated policing and management system would be established to ensure efficient traffic management, enhanced security and modern administrative operations.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The commissioner directed the authorities to accelerate plantation of three rows of trees on both sides of the Ring Road and complete landscaping with high-quality grass and other environmentally friendly features.
Ghani said the completion of the Ring Road would significantly reduce traffic congestion in Rawalpindi by diverting heavy vehicles from the city's main roads, including G.T. Road, Peshawar Road and Murree Road.
He said the project would help reduce travel time, fuel consumption and air pollution while providing safer, faster and more convenient travel facilities to the public.
The commissioner also instructed the departments concerned to complete the remaining work without delay and take all necessary measures to provide immediate relief to residents affected by the project.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Zainia Humayun, Director Development Syed Nazarat Ali Shah, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) and heads of the relevant departments.
