Commissioner reviews flood protection embankment

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan visited the under-construction flood protection embankment at Nooraja Bhatta in Jalalpur Pirwala to review progress.

Officials said a 13-kilometre-long protective embankment is being built to safeguard the motorway and nearby villages from potential flooding of the Sutlej River, following last year’s floods. Work is underway at four sites simultaneously, with progress described as satisfactory.

The project aims to complete the embankment up to a height of 9 feet by July 31, 2026, to ensure effective flood protection.

Authorities confirmed that funds have been released, with no financial constraints, and remaining funds are also assured.

The Commissioner directed that land acquisition compensation be initiated within the next 7 to 8 days to ensure timely completion.

Deputy Commissioner Nauman Siddique, Assistant Commissioner Mukarram Sahu, and other officials accompanied him.
