Commissioner Karachi reviews implementation of official prices of basic items

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, on Friday chairing a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, reviewed the implementation of the officially notified prices of basic items, in his office here.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and officers of the Commissioner Monitoring Team.

The meeting reviewed the steps taken to implement official rates. It was decided that the complaint centers established in markets and bazaars will be made effective.

The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners to encourage citizens to register complain, listen to their complaints and take immediate action to resolve them so that citizens are motivated to complain about higher rates and help in the efforts to implement official rates of essential commodities.

It was decided in the meeting that the staff assigned at the complaint center will use megaphones to make announcements related to complaints to citizens.

The Commissioner Karachi has advised the cities to help identify those charging high prices and to approach the complaint center for complaints about those charging high prices.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Karachi Office has issued a report on the operations on the ninth Ramazan, according to which on the ninth Ramazan, action was taken against 312 big sellers.

A total of more than Rs 23,82000 was imposed as a fine. Around 20 big sellers were arrested in the operations and 18 shops were sealed.

Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners, auctions of goods were held at official rates at 291 places. In total, prices were checked at 1,297 places.

The Commissioner Karachi Monitoring Team informed the meeting that auctioning of goods at government rates has helped in controlling prices. The meeting reviewed the system and performance of listening to citizens' complaints.

The meeting was informed that complaints received at various complaint centers have been resolved and the excess amount received from consumers has been returned. Fines were imposed on shopkeepers who charged excessive prices.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, officers of the monitoring team, assistant commissioners, all other deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners through video link and informed the commissioner about the details of the actions taken against the high sellers.
