Commissioner Karachi reviews arrangements on route of main Ashura-e-Muharram procession

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi on Tuesday accompanied by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Police Karachi Azad Khan and other concerned officials visited the route of main Ashura-e-Muharram procession to review the arrangements.

On this occasion, the Commissioner conducted a detailed review of law and order, security, cleanliness, provision of civic services, and other arrangements, said a spokesperson.

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, Deputy Commissioner East Nasarullah Abbasi, DIG South Asad Raza, DIG East Farooq Ali, Director Planning Nasim Bhutto, representatives from the Solid Waste Management board and Water Corporation, as well as the Municipal Commissioners of the South and East Town Municipal Administrations.

The officials concerned gave the Commissioner a detailed briefing on the arrangements for security and the provision of civic facilities during the processions and Majalis of Muharram-ul-Haram.

The Commissioner directed the concerned officers to maintain close coordination with the organizers of the processions and Majalis, remain available in the field, and make arrangements for the provision of facilities in consultation with the organizers.

The Commissioner was informed that comprehensive security measures have been taken for all processions, including the main Ashura-e-Muharram procession, under a well-planned strategy.

The required number of CCTV cameras have been installed, and control rooms have been established for surveillance. The control rooms will also be set up in the offices of the Deputy Commissioners and DIGs of Police.

On this occasion, it was informed that arrangements for medical facilities, water coolers (Sabeels), toilets, and parking have been made at the sites of processions and majalis.

Special arrangements have also been made to maintain the smooth flow of traffic, and alternative routes have been identified in this regard. The Commissioner directed that the alternative routes should be widely publicized.

The Commissioner was briefed on the details of work carried out in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram, including cleanliness drives, necessary repairs of roads, resolution of sewerage complaints, removal of encroachments along the procession routes, and installation of street lights.

It was informed that this work was accomplished through the cooperation of the Metropolitan Corporation, Solid Waste Management Board, Water Corporation, and various Town Administrations.
