KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi, chairing a meeting, decided that illegal billboards, banners and hoardings installed on public property in the city will be removed.
The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners (via video link), Assistant Commissioner Revenue Commissioner Karachi Sajjad Abro, Regional Director Local Government Ramazan Pathan, senior officers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Town Municipal Administrations and Cantonment Boards, and representatives of Outdoor Advertising Trade Association and Sindh Outdoor Advertisers Association, said a statement on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue Commissioner Karachi Sajjad Abro briefed the meeting on the orders of the Supreme Court and High Court regarding billboards installed on public properties, and identified illegal billboards, banners, gantries, and hoardings installed in the city, providing detailed information.
The Commissioner said that billboards, gantries, and hoardings installed on public properties are illegal. The concerned departments should prevent them and take action against those responsible.
It was decided in the meeting that Deputy Commissioners, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Town Municipal Administrations, and Cantonment Boards will ensure strict compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court and High Court regarding billboards, hoardings, and other publicity materials.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>It was decided that cases will be filed against concerned officers and advertising agencies for violation of the orders of the superior courts regarding billboards.
The meeting agreed that unsafe billboards, banners, hoardings, and gantries installed on private properties are also illegal.
It was decided that vigilance committees will be established in all towns and departments, which will include experts and reputable architects who will check the standards of unsafe billboards and hoardings to determine whether they are safe or unsafe, so that unsafe boards do not cause accidents.
It was decided that unsafe billboards or hoardings in the city will be removed before the monsoon season so that the risk of accidents caused by them during rain or strong winds can be eliminated.
The Commissioner said that the current testing standards are unsatisfactory and need to be checked and improved. He said that if any accident occurs due to unsafe billboards during the monsoon season, the responsibility will lie with the concerned Municipal Commissioner or concerned officer, and action will be taken against those responsible, and a case will be filed.
