Commissioner Karachi directs DCs to take strict action against illegal profiteering

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi Thursday directed all Deputy Commissioners to take strict action against overpricing and ensure on-spot auction take place at maximum locations to make essential food items are available at official rates.

A monitoring team comprising Commissioner Karachi's officials, including Additional Commissioner-I Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner-II Asadullah Khoso, Assistant Commissioner HQ Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sajjad Abro, and Assistant Commissioner General Waqas Abbasi, reported to Commissioner Karachi that on-spot auctions have provided relief to citizens.

They also said that, fewer people have approached complaint centers for help. The team advised the Deputy Commissioners to encourage citizens to report overpricing. The Commissioner office also has released the details of cost and weight of essential food commodities auctioned at official prices.

According to the report 1499 Kg of commodities worth Rs 303,481 were auctioned by price Magistrates on 248 locations in Karachi Division, including 1015 kg amounting Rs 189,778 of Fruits, 279 kg of 11,255 rupees of vegetables, 78 kg of meat and poultry of Rs 82,500 and 127 kg of grocery and others amounting 19,948 rupees.
