Commissioner Hazara urges religious scholars to promote peace, unity and tolerance during Muharram

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Hazara Division Fayyaz Ali Shah on Thursday called upon religious scholars from all schools of thought to play an active role in promoting peace, tolerance, brotherhood and national unity during Muharram-ul-Haram, saying that the teachings of Karbala offer a timeless message of sacrifice, patience and steadfastness in support of truth and justice.

He was addressing a divisional-level meeting held jointly with DIG Hazara Nasir Mahmood Satti to review security and administrative arrangements for the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram across Hazara Division.

The meeting was attended by deputy commissioners, district police officers, administrative and police officials from all districts of Hazara Division, and religious scholars representing various schools of thought. Participants discussed measures for maintaining law and order, ensuring inter-sect harmony, and managing Muharram processions and religious gatherings.

Commissioner Fayyaz Ali Shah said the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions continues to serve as a guiding light for humanity and stressed the need to promote the values of unity and brotherhood during Muharram.

He urged scholars to use their sermons and gatherings to discourage sectarianism, provocation and hate speech, while extending full cooperation to the administration for the peaceful observance of the month.

He further said that the government and district administrations were taking all necessary steps to ensure security, sanitation, healthcare, traffic management and other essential services during Muharram.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Hazara Nasir Mahmood Satti said foolproof security arrangements were being made and effective monitoring of all sensitive locations, processions and religious gatherings would be ensured. He highlighted the important role of religious scholars in maintaining peace and said close coordination between law enforcement agencies and community leaders was vital to preventing any untoward incidents.

The participating scholars assured the administration and police of their full cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting religious tolerance, sectarian harmony and peace throughout Hazara Division during Muharram-ul-Haram.
