DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Dera Division Muhammad Dawood Khan and Regional Police Officer (RPO Ghulam Mubashir Maken on Monday chaired a high-level peace jirga and consultative meeting at Police Lines Tank to review the district’s overall law and order situation and finalize preparations for maintaining peace during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.

The meeting was attended by District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Abdul Samad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Tank Jamshed Khan, senior officials of the police and district administration, political and social figures, religious scholars, tribal elders, members of peace committees, representatives of both Shia and Sunni communities and members of civil society.

During the event, local community leaders presented traditional turbans and cultural gifts to the commissioner and the RPO in recognition of their services and engagement with the district.

Addressing the meeting, speakers from various peace committees, tribal groups, social organizations, youth forums and the media appreciated the efforts of the district administration and police in maintaining law and order. They assured full cooperation in promoting inter-sect harmony, brotherhood and peaceful observance of Muharram.

The participants emphasized that lasting peace and stability are essential for development and prosperity and reaffirmed their commitment to preserving unity and harmony across the district. A demand for the restoration of the Perwana check post was also raised during the discussions.

RPO Ghulam Mubashir Maken said the participation of scholars, tribal elders, journalists, political representatives and members of all schools of thought on a single platform was encouraging and reflected a collective commitment to peace.

He stressed that ensuring security during Muharram was a shared responsibility and called on citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation and propaganda spread through social media.

“Pakistan’s security is our collective security. We are all in the same boat, and only through unity and cooperation can we achieve our goals,” he said, adding that hostile elements seek to create divisions through terrorism and disinformation.

The RPO further underlined the importance of national unity, religious harmony and mutual respect, describing the people of Pakistan as the country’s greatest strength.

The Commissioner praised Tank district as a model of inter-sect harmony, noting that the cordial relations between Shia and Sunni communities send a positive message to the entire region. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the public, police and security forces in the fight against terrorism and said their efforts were producing encouraging results.

He urged upon the citizens to avoid believing or sharing unverified information on social media and highlighted ongoing efforts to address local issues, including water and irrigation challenges, while assuring that electricity and other public concerns would also be resolved through consultation and cooperation.

At the end, DPO Abdul Samad Khan thanked all participants, including religious scholars, tribal elders, journalists, political leaders and officials, for their contribution to peacebuilding efforts.

The meeting concluded with special prayers for the peace, stability, progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
