Commissioner bans swimming in Indus, canals, lakes

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Mar, 2026) The Commissioner Hyderabad Division Fayaz Hussain Abbasi has banned swimming in the Indus River, its canals, all lakes and ponds located in the 9 districts of Hyderabad division.

In view of the recommendations of the Deputy Commissioners, the Commissioner authorized the police to arrest and lodge FIRs against the people who were found violating the ban.

According to Abbasi, the ban was being imposed in view of the prevalent weather conditions and the Eid holidays during which the people gathered to the waterfronts.
