KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, during his fifth consecutive field visit to key infrastructure projects in the city, inspected the BRT Red Line mixed-traffic corridor, the under-construction Azeempura Flyover, and the newly inaugurated Shahrah-e-Bhutto.

After Shahrah-e-Bhutto, he said, “We are going to inaugurate the Azeempura Flyover on June 15.”

He expressed satisfaction with the visible progress on the Red Line works, set a June 15 deadline to open the Azeempura Flyover to traffic, and ordered round-the-clock police patrolling, a ban on motorcycles, and the activation of an e-challan system on Shahrah-e-Bhutto to ensure safety and discipline.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon and Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab accompanied the chief minister. At the sites, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Commander FWO Karachi Brigadier Adnan, CEO TransKarachi Zuabir Channa, CEO Water board Ahmad Siddiqui, and other concerned officers and engineers were present.

At the Azeempura Flyover site, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was briefed by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab on the ongoing work and overall progress of the project.

The CM directed the mayor to complete the flyover within 100 days and open it for traffic by June 15. During the visit, Mayor Murtaza Wahab drove the chief minister across the under-construction structure for an on-site inspection.

“We will inaugurate the Azeempura Flyover on June 15 and open it for the public,” the chief minister said. He instructed the project director to further accelerate work while ensuring high construction standards and minimum inconvenience to citizens.

The Azeempura Flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity from Azeempura to the Malir Halt–Korangi Road corridor, reducing pressure on Shahrah-e-Faisal and adjoining roads.

CM Murad Shah also visited Shahrah-e-Bhutto to review security and traffic management arrangements on the newly inaugurated corridor.

He held a meeting with senior police officers led by Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan at Shah Faisal Toll Plaza, where the Adl IG briefed him on security measures and ongoing operations.

The chief minister directed the Additional IG Karachi to ensure 24/7 effective police patrolling, establish police check posts at every interchange, and strictly enforce the ban on motorcycles entering Shahrah-e-Bhutto.

Shah further ordered the immediate activation of the e-challan system, strict implementation of the 100 km per hour speed limit and seat-belt laws, and warned that wrong-way driving would not be tolerated. “Public safety and traffic discipline remain our top priority,” said CM Murad Ali Shah.

Earlier, the Sindh chief minister conducted his fifth consecutive visit to the KBRT Red Line project and expressed satisfaction over the visible progress achieved on the mixed traffic corridor and drainage works, noting that continuous monitoring by the government was producing tangible on-ground results.

The chief minister started his inspection from Dawood University Globe Roundabout and travelled up to Safooran Chowrangi, reviewing ongoing construction activities, traffic management arrangements, utility relocation and drainage infrastructure being executed under different sections of the project.

During the visit, Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon and CEO TransKarachi Zubair Channa briefed the chief minister in detail on the progress achieved on Lot-2 of the KBRT Red Line project from Numaish to Mosamiyat.

Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon told the chief minister that major works were underway simultaneously on mixed traffic lanes, delineator walls, drainage systems and utility relocation. So far, 1,950 metres of mixed traffic lane asphalt binder, 2,320 metres of subgrade and aggregate base, 1,024 metres of 600mm pipe drain, and substantial delineator and box drain works have been completed.

The CM was told that construction activities were progressing in multiple sections from Numaish to Jail Chowrangi, Jail Chowrangi to Hasan Square, Hasan Square to NIPA and onward up to Mosamiyat despite utility-related challenges and ongoing K-IV augmentation works in certain stretches.

CEO TransKarachi Zubair Channa informed the chief minister that pipe drain works had achieved 21 per cent progress overall, while utility relocation and backfilling works were also continuing at different locations, particularly where SSGC, KWSC and sewerage lines intersected the corridor.

At the Hasan Square–NIPA section, the CM was informed that some activities were temporarily affected due to K-IV augmentation works; however, delineator walls and drainage-related construction had continued where access was available.

The briefing further highlighted that work on the service roads was in preparatory stages and would commence in phases after completion of drainage and utility shifting activities.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Murad Ali Shah said the Red Line BRT project was one of the most important urban transport initiatives for Karachi and directed all executing agencies and contractors to maintain momentum and ensure the timely completion of works. “We are personally monitoring the project every Sunday because Karachiites deserve a modern, efficient and environment-friendly transport system,” the chief minister said.

Shah directed contractors to increase manpower and machinery wherever required and instructed all utility agencies to coordinate closely with TransKarachi and FWO so that relocation work could be completed without causing unnecessary delays.

The chief minister also stressed the need for better traffic management and public facilitation during construction activities. He directed officials to minimise inconvenience to commuters and ensure proper safety measures at all active work sites.

Murad Ali Shah said that the visible progress achieved during the last few weeks reflected the government’s seriousness and commitment to completing the project at the earliest.

According to the briefing, Lot-2 of the BRT Red Line project stretches from Numaish Chowrangi to Mosamiyat, covering 12.85 kilometres with 16 stations, while Lot-1 extends from Mosamiyat to Malir Halt, spanning 10 kilometres with six stations and two depots.

Brigadier Adnan of FWO also briefed the chief minister about the ongoing execution strategy, deployment of machinery and section-wise targets for accelerating construction activities across the corridor.
