LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari on Thursday said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif had established a new precedent of institutional accountability by promoting transparent governance across the province.

In a statement, Azma Bokhari said that under the Suthra Punjab Programme, corruption and irregularities in Faisalabad were timely detected through a modern live dashboard monitoring system, after which the matter was immediately referred to anti-corruption authorities. She said that for the first time, a chief minister personally initiated accountability of a public project, brought the issue before the public and ensured action against those responsible.

The provincial minister stated that after noticing irregularities in the Suthra Punjab Programme in Faisalabad, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif promptly sent a special audit team to the field. The inquiry team uncovered an organized nexus between contractors and certain government officials involved in alleged misuse of public funds.

Azma Bokhari said the investigation revealed that government resources were being used for personal interests, which not only damaged transparency but also affected the effectiveness of the public welfare project.

She emphasized that the action was not taken due to any complaint or external pressure, but was the direct result of the Chief Minister’s continuous and effective monitoring system.

The Information Minister further stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was personally overseeing every street and every development project in Punjab, adding that those involved in corruption and embezzlement of public funds would be dealt with strictly.

According to Azma Bokhari, the chief minister had reaffirmed her commitment to eliminating corruption by granting full autonomy to relevant institutions and ensuring that the accountability process continued without discrimination. She added that the Punjab government believed in practical accountability rather than mere slogans and was taking concrete steps to bring corrupt elements to justice.
