Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the police in Balochistan face not only routine societal crimes but also serious threats such as terrorism.
He stressed the urgent need to equip the force with professional expertise, modern training, and advanced technology.
Officials from the provincial Home Department presented a detailed briefing on progress since the Levies merger, challenges encountered, and the roadmap ahead.
The meeting approved immediate and long-term plans to align the police with modern standards. A key decision included the appointment of 46 new Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) across the province to enhance supervision and administrative efficiency.
The Chief Minister also ordered the establishment of a new administrative police structure at divisional and district levels, directing that all necessary resources be provided without delay. He assured that the provincial government would allocate maximum resources to improve the force’s operational capacity.
Sarfraz Bugti instructed authorities to ensure effective implementation of reforms in administrative jurisdictions and powers following the Levies integration.
He underscored that public safety and law and order must remain top priorities, declaring that protecting citizens’ lives and property is the fundamental responsibility of the state.
The CM further directed the formulation of a robust monitoring system to regularly evaluate police performance across districts. Strengthening the rule of law and promoting a merit-based system, he noted, would enhance public confidence and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the province.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Zahid Saleem, Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan, Finance Secretary Lal Jan Jaffar, and other senior officials.
