QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening irrigation infrastructure, describing it as a fundamental pillar of agricultural development and economic stability.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Quetta with parliamentary representatives from the Naseerabad Division and senior officials of the Irrigation Department, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing development and rehabilitation projects, with key decisions taken to enhance water management and agricultural productivity.
The Rs5 billion Hairdin Drainage Project in Sohbatpur district was highlighted, with consensus to expedite completion to ensure timely benefits for farmers.
Rehabilitation of the Manjhooti and Uch canals will be included in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, aimed at addressing water shortages and supporting cultivators.
Sarfraz Bugti directed authorities to adopt modern technology for monitoring and managing irrigation schemes. He stressed phased restructuring of canals and drainage systems to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
To maintain transparency, he instructed that project directors be appointed from relevant departments and emphasized stronger accountability mechanisms to guarantee effective use of public resources.
Highlighting the agricultural importance of Naseerabad Division, Sarfraz Bugti described it as Balochistan’s “green belt” and “fruit basket.” He underscored the urgent need for comprehensive measures to boost agricultural output, noting “Irrigation projects are the backbone of agricultural growth and economic stability.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that strengthening agriculture would not only increase farm output but also stabilize the local economy and create employment opportunities. Improved irrigation infrastructure, he said, would contribute significantly to rural prosperity and long-term resilience.
The meeting was attended by parliamentary leaders from political parties, provincial ministers, and senior bureaucrats, reflecting broad-based support for irrigation reforms. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated efforts to accelerate development work and ensure irrigation infrastructure meets modern standards.
