City sealed as strict security plan enforced for Muharram

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) In view of security concerns during Muharram-ul-Haram, authorities have decided to seal the city areas of Peshawar from today as part of a comprehensive security plan aimed at maintaining law and order across the province.

According to official sources, strict restrictions will be imposed on entry and exit points of the city. Movement in sensitive areas will be limited to prevent any untoward incidents during the holy month.

As part of the security measures, several markets will remain closed, while shops located in sensitive zones have been directed to suspend business activities. Traders and shopkeepers have already been informed about the restrictions. Officials said the measures are being implemented solely for security reasons.

The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will remain completely suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. Traffic movement on various routes will also be restricted and citizens have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements.

Special security checkpoints and barricades will be established in designated security zones to ensure public safety.

Business activity in the city has already begun to slow down, with a noticeable decline in customer turnout since yesterday. Market traders report reduced footfall, affecting the usual commercial activity in the area.

Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and follow the announced guidelines to help maintain peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.
