KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2026) The city administration in a meeting with Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi in chair decided to vacate all dilapidated and dangerous buildings in Karachi before the monsoon rains.
The officers of the Sindh Buildings Control Authority (SBCA), district administration and culture department were also in attendance in the meeting held on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the SBCA briefed the Commissioner Karachi about the dilapidated and dangerous buildings in the city.
It was informed that according to a survey by the Buildings Control Authority, there are 584 dangerous buildings in Karachi, including 59 extremely dilapidated and dangerous buildings. The 59 extremely dilapidated buildings include 29 historical buildings.
The Commissioner said that priority measures are needed to vacate the extremely dilapidated buildings to protect the lives of the residents, including historical buildings.
In total, 29 historical buildings are included in the dilapidated buildings, more than 90 percent of which are located in the South District.
The Sindh Buildings Control Authority informed the meeting in a briefing that 442 buildings are located in the South District. While 73 buildings are located in the Central District, 16 in the East District, 18 in the Korangi District, 28 in the Keamari District, 5 in the Malir District and two in the West District.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The meeting decided that the Sindh Buildings Control Authority should immediately provide the list of highly dilapidated buildings requiring immediate vacating to the Deputy Commissioners and take priority steps in collaboration with the district administration to vacate the dilapidated buildings.
It was decided that action would be taken to demolish the dilapidated buildings depending on their nature.
The meeting decided that before this, the Sindh Buildings Control Authority would advertise the list of dilapidated buildings through all means of publicity to inform the citizens and residents.
It was decided in the meeting that the Sindh Buildings Control Authority will immediately issue notices to vacate the above-mentioned buildings.
It was decided that the in case of non-compliance, action will be taken to disconnect the gas, electricity and water connections of the buildings in question with the cooperation of the concerned utility institutions, while priority measures will be taken for temporary accommodation or rehabilitation of the affected residents.
The meeting was attended by Additional Director General Sindh Buildings Control Authority Ali Ghufran, Director General Culture Department Abdul Fattah, various Deputy Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners.
