Chiniot Deputy Commissioner reviews flood preparedness, orders faster protection works

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2026) Chiniot Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan on Monday reviewed flood preparedness measures, inspected relief arrangements and ordered authorities to accelerate embankment strengthening and development projects during a visit to Tehsil Bhawana.

Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Sheena Azam and officials from relevant departments, Rizwan visited the flood relief camp established at Jamiaabad, where she inspected arrangements made by Rescue 1122, the Livestock Department and the Health Department to respond to any potential flooding.

She directed officials to ensure the timely provision of relief and all necessary facilities for residents in the event of an emergency.

The deputy commissioner later visited Mouza Sahmal, where she received a briefing on the area's water situation, ongoing relief efforts and flood safety measures. She instructed all concerned departments to remain on high alert until the flood threat subsides and to maintain readiness for any emergency.

During inspections of irrigation canals in Mouza Mamunde Wala and Thatta Muhammad Shahabadi village, Rizwan reviewed work to strengthen canal embankments and other protective infrastructure.

She ordered the authorities to complete embankment reinforcement work by the following day and instructed irrigation officials to speed up ongoing flood protection operations.

Rizwan also met local residents, heard their concerns about flood-related problems and assured them that the district administration would provide all possible assistance.

The visit concluded with an inspection of the ongoing construction of the "Welcome Chiniot Gate" at the city's main entrance on Jhang Road. The deputy commissioner directed officials to accelerate work on the project while ensuring compliance with safety standards so that it is completed within the scheduled timeframe.
