Chinese parliamentary delegation witnesses Senate proceedings, receives standing ovation

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Mr Cai Dafeng, along with his parliamentary delegation, on Wednesday witnessed the proceedings of the Senate.

The House gave a standing ovation to the visiting dignitary by thumping desks.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, while warmly welcoming the Chinese delegation to the House, said that the visit reflected the warmth, trust, and enduring goodwill that define Pakistan-China relations.

“This year marks 75 years of our diplomatic ties. We enjoy an ironclad friendship built on mutual respect, unwavering solidarity, and shared purpose. This time-tested cooperative relationship has only grown stronger with the passage of time and continues to inspire confidence among the people of both our countries,” the Chairman said.

The Chairman said the historic address delivered by former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to a special joint sitting of the Parliament of Pakistan on December 18, 2010, remains a proud and memorable milestone in parliamentary and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said the landmark occasion symbolized the exceptional trust and enduring brotherhood between the two nations.

“We also deeply value the growing engagement between our parliamentary institutions. Such exchanges bring our legislatures closer and further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation. In this regard, I also extend my warmest wishes and sincere regards to my esteemed counterpart, the Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China,” Yousaf Raza Gilani said.

He expressed the hope that the visit would further reinforce the special bond and open new avenues of parliamentary and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
