Children’s Hospital Rawalpindi capacity to be expanded to 400 beds

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) The capacity of Children’s Hospital Rawalpindi is being expanded from 200 to 400 beds with operationalization of the facility to be made available by June 30 next year..

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engr Aamir Khattak said that timely availability of funds would be ensured through relevant forums for completion of the project in the next fiscal year.

He stated that the hospital would be equipped with modern medical facilities, including emergency, outpatient and inpatient services, along with specialized Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), along with availability of specialist paediatric doctors and trained staff, adding that it would serve as a modern centre for diagnosis, treatment, research and training.

The commissioner expressed these views while chairing a follow-up meeting regarding the recent visit of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique to the project site.

Officials briefed the meeting that construction work on the hospital started on April 29, 2026, and a deadline of June 30, 2027 had been set for its completion.

They pointed out that work had been divided into two groups to ensure parallel progress at multiple sites for timely completion, adding that financial progress of the project had reached 100 per cent while additional funds had also been requested.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, Additional Commissioner Coordination Zainia Humayun, SE Buildings Imran and other concerned officers.

The commissioner stressed that no compromise would be made on the quality and pace of work and directed the authorities to remove encroachments around the project site without delay.
