Children of Karachi Press Club members visit SMIU

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) Sindh Madressatul islam University (SMIU) hosted a study visit of children of Karachi Press Club members/journalists on Thursday.

During the visit, a ceremony was held in the university auditorium, during which the acting Vice Chancellor of SMIU, Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, while appreciating the KPC and its members and welcoming the visiting children, said that it is the Primary responsibility of parents to make our new generation aware of their history and heritage.

He said that the visit of the children of distinguished journalists to SMIU links them with the alma mater of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and other outstanding personalities and establishes a bond with it.

Dr. Halepoto noted that SMIU is a modern institution, which was established by Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi with a noble spirit and struggle aimed at every new generation of the land being able to acquire modern education and move forward. Talking on the AI, Dr. Halepoto said that artificial intelligence is a reality of today's era, but one should not rely completely on it; rather, one should use one's mind.

Mr. Razzaq Abro, secretary of the library Committee of the Karachi Press Club, said that since last year, the KPC has been taking its members’ children to visit various historical institutions and places, and their visit today is also a part of the said series.

He thanked the SMIU administration for organizing their visit in the best possible way.

On this occasion, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, Chairperson of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences, SMIU, gave a presentation on the topic of artificial intelligence to the children of members of the KPC and spoke in detail about its positive and negative aspects.

He said that although this is the era of artificial intelligence, whose importance is increasing in every field, artificial intelligence will in no way be able to dominate human intelligence.

Zonaira Jalali, Manager of the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling, SMIU, briefed the delegation about the historical role of SMIU, facilities available for students, various academic departments, and the Directorate of Students Affairs. She welcomed the children of the KPC members to SMIU and said that it is possible that these children of today will become students of SMIU tomorrow. Ms. Zonaira Jalali also conducted the proceedings in an excellent manner.

On this occasion, the delegation was also shown a documentary about the university. The event was attended by senior journalists Sheema Siddiqui, Javed Mahar, Naseer Ahmed, Dean of SMIU Dr. Stephen John, Registrar Ghulam Mustafa Shaikh, Director of Examinations and Admissions Furqan Iftikhar, Director HRM Shakeel Abro, and others.

The delegation then visited the Jinnah Museum, where Assistant Director of the PR Department Ashfaq Sial briefed them about the relics of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi, and alumni of SMI available in the museum, while during the visit to the tv studio, Director of the Media Training Center Asif Ghaffar briefed the delegation about the university's TV studio.
