CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2026) Authorities in Chiniot remained on high alert on Monday as a moderate flood wave moved downstream in the Chenab River, despite a decline in water flow to around 30,000 cusecs at Chiniot. The Irrigation Department has warned that water levels could rise again in the coming hours, prompting the district administration to maintain emergency preparedness.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan visited Chenab Nagar and other vulnerable locations to inspect flood relief camps, protective embankments and emergency response arrangements. She directed Rescue 1122, the Health Department, Livestock, Civil Defense and other relevant agencies to remain fully mobilized to respond swiftly to any flood-related emergency.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Officials said flood relief camps established in Tehsil Lalian and Bhuwana have been equipped with rescue boats, life jackets, medical facilities, clean drinking water, dry food supplies and other essential relief items. Authorities have also completed arrangements for continuous surveillance of low-lying areas and the timely evacuation of residents, if required.
The district administration said the Chenab River is being monitored around the clock through the Flood Control Room, with all concerned departments on standby. Officials emphasized that precautionary measures remain in place to ensure an immediate response should the river's water level increase further.
