Chairman Senate lauds role of Pakistan Information Commission

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday appreciated the Pakistan Information Commission, saying it is playing an important role in ensuring the implementation of the right of access to information law, addressing public grievances, and promoting proactive disclosure by public bodies.

During a meeting with Chief Information Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, along with a member of the Pakistan Information Commission, the Chairman termed the interaction important for strengthening institutional coordination, according to a news release.

He observed that the completion of three years since the establishment of the Pakistan Information Commission marks a significant milestone. He said this reflects the Commission’s growing institutional capacity, improved service delivery, and increasing public awareness regarding the right of access to information.

He emphasised that transparency is a fundamental principle of governance that fosters public trust, strengthens institutions, and supports informed decision-making.

Appreciating the Commission’s role, he reiterated that it is playing an important part in ensuring the implementation of the law, addressing public grievances, and promoting proactive disclosure by public bodies.

The Chairman of the Senate further highlighted the importance of maintaining institutional balance and adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks while advancing transparency objectives.

He expressed confidence that enhanced coordination, clarity in procedures, and effective implementation mechanisms would further strengthen the transparency regime and contribute to improved governance standards.

Chief Information Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui presented the Commission’s bi-annual report to the Chairman of the Senate and conveyed his good wishes.
