CDA, JICA discuss long-term plan for Islamabad water infrastructure

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf on Monday held talks with a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on reforms and development projects aimed at improving the capital’s water supply and drainage infrastructure.

During the meeting at CDA headquarters, both sides discussed technical cooperation for projects related to water supply, sewage and drainage systems in Islamabad.

According to officials, JICA will prepare a comprehensive master plan for Islamabad’s water supply, sewage and drainage network, designed to cater to the city’s needs until 2060.

The meeting was attended by CDA Member Administration Esfandyar Baloch, DG Islamabad Water Sardar Khan Zimri and other senior officials.

Sohail Ashraf said sustained efforts were underway to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to residents of the capital.

He added that JICA would also extend technical assistance for the Shahdara Dam and Dotara Dam projects.

He said construction work on Shahdara Dam had already begun, while measures were being taken to curb water wastage, reduce line losses and encourage efficient water use.

The CDA chairman said the initiatives were aimed at strengthening Islamabad’s water infrastructure and meeting the city’s future requirements.

He also said JICA’s technical expertise would be utilised for the upgradation of the Simly Water Filtration Plant and Sangjani Water Filtration Plant.

The JICA delegation reiterated its willingness to provide technical cooperation for addressing water-related issues in Islamabad.

Later, the delegation visited the Simly and Sangjani water filtration plants.
