MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) The Cantonment board Multan (CBM) launched an Urban Forest Initiative, drawing enthusiastic participation from Multaniites who planted hundreds of saplings, adding a cool greener patch to the city's landscape here Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by Station Commander Brigadier Saleem Younis and Vice Chancellor, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) Prof. Dr. Rao Muhammad Asif Ali as chief guests. The plantation drive formally commenced with saplings provided by the Farmer Development Organization (FDO).
Participants including distinguished guests, traders, civil society representatives, students enthusiastically took part in the tree plantation campaign, with around 500 saplings planted collectively.
Under the project, an urban forest has been established over an acre of land comprising plant species known for their higher capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and contribute to environmental protection.
Among those present on the occasion were CEO CBM Sardar Atif Sultan, Additional CEO Muhammad Asif Hayat, members of the Cantonment Board, representatives of civil society, the business community, and notables from various walks of life. Students from different educational institutions also actively participated in the event.
Cantonment Board members Muhammad Yaqoob Shera, Khawaja Muazzam Waheed, Malik Zahid Awan, Chaudhry Mahmood Ali, Khawaja Dilshad, Akhtar Hussain, Sajjad Bhatti and Ejaz Karim attended the ceremony, while former members Rana Ashraf, Abdul Waheed and Shamshad Ansari were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the participants emphasized the importance of urban forestry in combating climate change, improving air quality, and promoting ecological balance in rapidly growing cities.
