Call to discourage growing drug abuse

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) A seminar on growing drug abuse among the youth was held at the Drug Rehabilitation

Centre (DRC) Multan on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,

organised by Young Pakistanis Organization and DRC Social Welfare Multan.

Deputy Director Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Multan Abdul Aziz Khan presided over the event,

which was attended by Chief Traffic Officer Multan Muhammad Nabeel Khokhar, District Accounts

Officer Qamar-ul-Islam, Sajjada Nashin Darbar Hazrat Dawood Jahanian Makhdoom Shoaib Akmal

Hashmi Qureshi, and Chairman Department of Gender Studies Bahauddin Zakariya University

Professor Dr Mureed Hussain Malik, among others.

CTO Khokhar said City Police Officer Multan Sadiq Ali Dogar directed all SHOs to take strict action

against drug peddlers. He added that DRC was working to rehabilitate addicts and that those wishing

to learn driving would be trained and issued licences to earn a respectable livelihood.

The speakers cautioned that seemingly harmless habits, including shisha, cigarettes, gutka

and e-cigarettes, serve as gateways to harder drugs and urged awareness campaigns targeting the youth.

The seminar concluded with an awareness walk, led by all distinguished guests, who also planted

saplings. DRC Superintendent Ms Sameera Sattar thanked the participants.
