QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Acting on the special directives of Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA), Haji Noor Muhammad Dummar, the authority has initiated a large-scale crackdown against vegetables cultivated with sewage water to ensure the supply of safe and quality food to the public.

In a major operation led by Director Operations Fakhruddin Mari, teams destroyed crops grown on 22 acres of land along Sabzal Road, including cauliflower, mint, coriander, khulfah, onions, and beetroot. The move was aimed at preventing these hazardous vegetables from reaching markets and posing health risks to citizens.

Director General of the Balochistan Food Authority, Habibullah Khan, stated that despite clear directives from the High Court and the provincial government, the cultivation of edible crops using sewage water will not be tolerated. He explained that such vegetables contain harmful bacteria, heavy metals, and other contaminants that can cause serious diseases.

He further announced that similar indiscriminate actions will continue across other areas of the province. Wherever vegetables grown with sewage water are found, they will be destroyed immediately. He clarified that under the law, sewage water can only be used for non-edible crops, while its use for vegetables or other consumable produce is strictly prohibited. Farmers violating these rules will face legal action in addition to the destruction of their crops.

Habibullah Khan also appealed to the public and media to promptly report any instances of unsafe, adulterated, or sewage-grown vegetables so that timely action can be taken. He added that the Food Authority is strengthening its complaint registration system to ensure swift responses and maximum protection of public health.
